On June 10, 2016, a Memorial Session took place on at the University of São Paulo School of Public Health in recognition to Dr. João Yunes, a deceased and most distinguished Brazilian public health professional and former PAHO staff. The session was very well attended by around seventy participants in addition to many colleagues connected via an Internet link. The event was sponsored by GHIA and the Latin-American and the Caribbean Center of Information on Health Science BIREME/PAHO/WHO.
BIREME Director and GHIA’s President, Dr. Juan Manuel Sotelo introduced the ceremony followed by twelve speakers from different institutions and walks of life presenting their memories and views related to Dr. Yunes' national and international career and achievements. Both, Dr. Yunes’ wife Oneida and daughter Christiane spoke after the recognition ceremony. The event was closed by the Dr. Joaquin Molina, PAHO/WHO Representative in Brazil.
