On June 23, 2016, Felipe VI, King of Spain, awarded a medal and diploma of the "Orden Civil por servicios extraordinarios” to Dr. Jose Romero Teruel . The decoration was given at a Ceremony at the Ambassador of Spain’s Residence in Washington, DC.
During the Ceremony, Mr. Jorge Hevia, Ambassador of Spain to the Organization of American States, indicated that the Orden Civil was established by Alfonso XIII, King of Spain, to recognized extraordinary services to his country. Mr. Hevia highlighted Dr. Teruel’s distinguished career and work at the Pan American Health Organization and the many contributions to public health. Dr. Teruel was accompanied by his wife and family.
